Revisiting Inclusive Education in Vermont:How can we include all students in meaningful ways?

Presenter: Michael F. Giangreco is a Professor in UVM's Department of Education (Special EducationProgram) and at Center on Disability & Community Inclusion. His research focuses on variousaspects of including students with a full range of disabilities in general education classes. He is theauthor of numerous studies and related publications on inclusive education and works extensivelywith schools and educational organizations in Vermont, nationally, and internationally.
Topic: Inclusive education has a longer history in Vermont than virtually every other state in the country.Yet data from the last few years suggests we may be losing ground. This session explores: (a) thecurrent status of inclusive education in Vermont, (b) elements of inclusive education, (c) lessons wehave learned from research and practice, and (d) what and how school personnel and families canwork together to extend quality inclusive educational opportunities for students with disabilities and other special educational needs. This full morning session will be to share current issues and data aswell as practical strategies, at both the school and classroom, level to facilitate inclusive education.
