Two Options to Participate

In-Person at Castleton University (due to COVID restrictions, capacity is limited)

Virtual via Zoom (unlimited capacity)

This conference will review the Patterns of Strengths and Weaknesses (PSW) model of Cattell Horn Carroll (CHC) theory and provide in-depth description of how to implement and use PSW for eligibility decisions.  PSW methods and the strengths and limitations of each will be addressed. This presentation will show how school psychologists can adopt CHC to best collaborate with SLPs and OTs to produce a single comprehensive evaluation. Through this structured collaboration more precise diagnoses and interventions can be developed. Participants will also leave with a clear understanding of and ability to differentiate between language processing, dyslexia, and SLI, using the Simple View of Reading framework. Special emphasis on assessment and language development of EL population.

Learning Outcomes of PSW in Action:

1. Attendees will have a practice ready PSW model on how to organize and interpret data from all school based service providers.

2. Attendees will reach consensus on the distinctive definitions of dyslexia and language impairment within the context of the Simple View of Reading (SVR).

3. Attendees will have a clear understanding on how monolingual professionals can effectively evaluate an English Language Learner to determine dyslexia.

4. Attendees will be able to immediately locate on the web free academic intervention resources to address reading, writing, and math skills.
